Ok, Ok, That's Perhaps A Wee Bit Cheesy? 1

I’ve yet to fulfill my craving for Japanese food despite having eliminated for a week’s sojourn in Tokyo 8 weeks ago. Having no other programs for the day, wifey and I decided to give it a go at a Boteyju San restaurant at Star Vista. Guess we were early. The restaurant wasn’t crowded and we managed to get a table for the three folks.

I observed the restaurant was generally organized for 2-seaters. Perhaps that’s more of their typical clients. Like many such restaurants, purchases were placed using a Tablet (iPad?). I purchased a mixed set which came with servings of wagyu meat, chicken and salmon, along with some vegetables and potato. Tasty enough, even though the beef was a tad overcooked.

My daughter purchased the garlic deep-fried rice. It was tasty really! Wifey went for the yakisoba. It had been quite good as well. The main feature was probably the okonomiyaki that i believe this restaurant is well-known for. It didn’t disappoint. May have been more fun though if we’re able to did some self cooking for this. Kind of remembered the fun we’d whenever we did this previously in Japan, even if we couldn’t communicate a word in any way with the Japanese staff then who spoke no english!

All we needed was a smartphone with a vocabulary translator! A full life saver to breakdown vocabulary barriers. What’s this got to do with investment or finance? Not much, except maybe the idea that people have to take pleasure from life even as we save towards a financial future even. Ok, ok, that’s perhaps a wee bit cheesy? Actually, there is a link. But it wasn’t the reason that led me to patronise this restaurant. It had been a discovery following the fact, and totally serendipitous therefore. As I had been paying for the meal, I found out with some glee that restaurant is in fact part of the chain for which I had developed a discount card. 10% discount is no small amount.

Thank you Japan Foods! Like a stock though, Japan Foods hasn’t been great for me up to now. I speculate the meals industry is a hard one as is a lot competition there. Labour in Singapore is expensive. But I do note that Japan Foods employs technology to streamline its functions. Its service personnel standard isn’t as great though, so there’s much room for improvement. Still, the discount card hasn’t been a negative thing. Slurp slurp, munch munch.
